KONY 2012 – We Will Stop At Nothing

March7

Hey everyone :)
It’s been such a long time since I’ve been on here but I’m making this post today so I can get the word out.

A man named Joseph Kony is a murderer and kidnapper in Uganda. This man kidnaps children and forces them to first kill their own family and he then adds them to his child army. Before 2012, the US government could think of no way to stop Kony and didn’t fully want to. But now the world is speaking out and is trying to get the world to realize this murderer. We have now got the US on our side and they are doing what they can to capture him and put him away. Though not everyone knows about him and it will be easy for people to forget if we don’t do something now.
You can all see how far technology has gotten us, it’s time to step it up. Use your Facebook, your blog, Twitter or any other site that could help make this go viral. Take time to watch the video below and share it.

April 20th is the day we can really make a change. That day is when posters will be put up and we are trying to get everyone world wide to tag your town or city and make this problem known. (the Facebook page is here for more information on that) It shouldn’t take a year, when we can do it in one day.
We will stop at nothing.

Our Amazing Adventure

June23

lilypadHey everyone! (:

If you’ve read my second last post, you’d know that I went to the Vancouver Aquarium on Monday. We went with 3 other classes so that all the grade 6 and 7′s could go. It was just as fun as last year! I think my favourite part though was the ferry ride there and back because it was really fun hanging out on the ferry with all my friends.

When we got to Vancouver, we took a long bus ride to downtown Vancouver. We then walked to Stanley Park and rested for a while. It’s right beside the Aquarium so after that we walked there. We took tours throughout the Aquarium and even behind the scenes. We had a late night buffet with lots of food to eat, then we went to the wet lab and got to touch some sea creatures.

Then we went to the Beluga Whale tanks, and got ready for bed. Some of us didn’t sleep for awhile though others went to bed right away. I went to bed right away because I was super tired but last year I didn’t go to bed for a long time. In the morning, we woke up, packed up our sleeping stuff, then eventually made our way to a breakfast buffet. After that, we could go around the Aquarium and look at what we wanted and then, we went to the gift shop. The gift shop there is huge and filled with really cool things. I bought an octopus hat and a little metal whale.

It’s pretty cool there, so if you ever come by Vancouver, you should take a visit! (:

Raging Riot!

June16

RiotFlamesHello everyone (:

A lot of you have probably already heard about or even witnessed the huge riot that went on in Vancouver last night after the Stanley Cup Finals between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks. Though there may be some important facts that you didn’t know about or you just haven’t heard…

Well after The Bruins won, the streets of downtown Vancouver were filled with thousands of people. Riots had eventually broken out and people had gone crazy. People were stabbed, cars were flipped over, building windows smashed, and flames bursting out. Even a guy wearing a Bruins jersey walked out of the arena and got a flash grenade below his stomach.

A lot of this happened because there was a lot of alcohol involved. That of course, didn’t help at all. London Drugs (a drug store) was damaged quite badly and the costs of repairing it will be around 1 million dollars, and that is just for one store. Also stores like The Bay, Future Shop, Bank of Montreal, and a few others were recked.

The unfortunate thing is that now what do people think of Vancouver? Many may think that we are horrible citizens who hate to be defeated but really, most of the people who were ruining the city, weren’t actually Canuck fans. Just people who took advantage of the fact, and thought they could do whatever they wanted because of it.

Actually, a lot of the Canuck fans in the arena were great about the Bruins winning. I myself, am a Canucks fan but the Bruins definitely deserved to win. In the arena Bostons goalie, Tim Thomas, got a standing ovation even from the Canuck fans. When they held up the cup, Canucks fans were cheering too. They were definitely supportive which I think is great. Honestly, my opinions on the people of Vancouver are no different then before.

Also, a lot of rumours have been floating around about people dying. They are not true. The mayor of Vancouver announced that no one was killed and the worst injury was that one man got a serious head injury but other than that, over 100 people were hospitalized but with less damage.

So I hope you all take a second thought on our Vancouver people. Did you witness this riot? What are your thoughts on it?

Here We Go!

June13

aquariumHey everyone! (: Today, all the grade 6/7 classes in our school are going to the Vancouver Aquarium again! I’m so excited, because I also went last year and it was extremely fun, and my friends and I had such a great time there. It’s going to be even better if the Vancouver Canucks win because the last game they won there was 100 000 people in the streets of Vancouver.

They even had huge screens around the city showing the game. They are my favourite NHL team as well so, It’s going to be awesome. We’re sleeping with the beluga whales again this time. It was really cool because they talk to each other in the tank. I’ll make a post when I get back from the Aquarium to tell you all what we did! If you want to read about last year, go to the post here.

Gymnast For 2 Weeks!

May30

splitjumpAt our school, we get the gymnastics equipment for 2 weeks. One side of our gym is all the equipment like beams and vaults and on the other side, the big tumbling mats. During these 2 weeks our whole class got a chance to try the equipment as well as all the other classes. In the last week we had it, we all had to make up our own gymnastics routine on the mats. Some people did theirs with a partner while others went alone. I chose to have a partner and I’m with Emily.

I’ve never been in gymnastics before but a few people in my class are or have been. I’m not the greatest but I can do things like cartwheels, round offs, bridges, and more. Today we are presenting our routines and I’m a little nervous because I’m sick and I don’t know If I will be able to. I’ll try though! We are getting evaluated by our teacher and we have criteria that we have to match. It includes tumbling, leaps, passes etc.

I hope Emily and I do good, and good luck to all my classmates! Are any of you in gymnastics?

Summer Break!

May27

summerbreakMy school is over in about a month from now and then we’ll all be on our summer break! I’m super excited because I love summer as you may already know. I thought I’d let you all know that I will continue blogging throughout the summer just like I did last summer. I’m not sure how many posts I’ll put up I’ll put at least 3 if I can! I enjoy blogging over the summer because sometimes I’m not sure of what to do and when I blog about all the fun things I did, that gives everybody else an idea too. If you have read any of my summer posts, they do list a few things on what I did and how much fun I was having.

It wont be summer for everyone though because in the Southern Hemisphere, it will be there winter break and I hope all of them have fun too! I’m a little nervous to see how hot it will be for our summer though because we aren’t having the best weather. Today it is pouring rain but during the weekend it was extremely hot for spring which I enjoyed. I do hope for a hot and sunny summer though! Hope you all enjoy your last few weeks of school and your summer/winter break! (:

So Many Favourites

May13

sunshinebuddiesHello Everyone! (: I’m pretty sure everyone has either a favourite food, drink, band(s), colour, hobby, and many more! I’d love to share with all you guys some of my favourites and you could even comment sharing yours because I’d love to hear yours too. My favourite food is steak. I love it because it tastes good, obviously, but the weird thing is, that my favourite animal is a cow.

I’m not sure why I like cows so much, It’s kind of an odd animal to like but I guess it all started when I got a cow stuffy and it was really cute. As you may already know, my favourite colour is green, I know I’ve mentioned this plenty of times but it’s true! My favourite hobbies are hockey and dance. Especially goalie (for hockey) and Hip hop (for dance). For bands, I like Nickelback, Down with Webster, The Cataracts and Hedley. For a singer though, I like Eminem, Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Dev, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars.

In school, my favourite subjects are gym, math, and art. I love gym mostly because of the sports, math because it’s fun and interesting… Most of the time, and art because I’m artistic and I love to be! My favourite season is summer, my favourite drink is a smoothie, my favourite holiday is Christmas, my favourite game is The Sims 3, and my favourite thing to do is listen to music and/or hangout with my friends. These are just a few of my favourite things but I hope this post showed you all just a little bit more about me! (: I’d still love to read some of your favourites, if you’d like to share, comment or even make your own post about it!

It’s As Simple As That!

May9

Here’s a cartoon I made on an environmental issue. I did mine on energy wasting. Yes, wasting energy is bad for our planet but the thing is, It’s actually really simple to fix. It’s as simple as turning off a light switch in a room when it’s not needed. The cartoon is also very simple and doesn’t give out a lot of information but that’s because It’s easy to follow and It tells that it doesn’t take much to make a difference.

Since I didn’t really give out any facts, I found one realy cool one that yet, makes all the difference. Did you know, that just by turning off your computer/laptop when you go to sleep, school/work, or when you go out for long periods of time, you’re using 85% less energy then you would if you left it on. Even putting it to sleep helps!

Also a little information about how I made this cartoon! It’s super easy to make and extremely fun. If you want to give it a try, go to Toondoo.com and sign up for free!

Wordle Your World

April27

wordleHello everyone! Last year my teacher had introduced me to a site called, Wordle. It’s a really cool site that could be used in many ways. I’ve used mine to show things that matter to me and what I really like. All you do is go to the site, and click “Create” then you type in words that will show up on the picture. The cool thing is, the more you type a word, the bigger it will appear. So for instance, I typed in Shania the most, therefore it is the largest on the Wordle.

You could actually use Wordle as a form of graph. So if you took a survey and lets say it was about the people’s favourite food, you would gather your information and then put it into the Wordle. So if 20 people said there’s was chicken, then you’d type it in 20 times. Which ever food was liked the most would come out the biggest showing everyone that it was liked most. As for the least selected food(s) would show up the smallest.

I hope you all give it a try sometime because It’s a really cool site and you could use it for lots of things.

Colourful

April23

Picnik collageYou guys may already know this from my About Me post, but my absolute favourite colour is green. I really love it because it’s so natural but when you don’t want it to be, it’s lime green. I love most greens, but lime green and light-ish greens are the best, well, to me. My iPod case is lime green, and I happen to really like it. (: I always make the background on my iPod really colourful to match my case, sounds weird, but it looks really bright. Also, most of my blankets are lime green and even parts of my pillows. Even my shoes are green.

My second favourite colour is purple, I love it becuase it’s just super pretty and it really stands out. My friend Celina’s walls in her room are a really deep but vibrant purple and it’s really amazing. Also some parts of her blankets match and they are also really pretty.

Now we have my third favourite colour which is blue. It just so happens that today I’m wearing a blue sweater and I’ve have noticed that I have more blue sweaters than any other colour. I just think that it’s a really good colour for sweaters. Also, some of my blankets/pillows are also blue. I’m also in love with beautiful blue water, on beaches or in lakes. In the summer, I love how the water glistens in the sun. In the summer I usually go to Port Mcneill, and I love to look out the window and just watch all the water and nature that surrounds me. It’s actually really beautiful here, and I’m happy to live where I do.

These three colours just so happen to go really good together. That is why I chose these pictures, they represent each colour. The fourth picture is for the colours I talk about below this.

Recently, I have become a quite of a fan of yellow and orange. Mostly for clothing though, especially in the summer becuase it looks really good. I like them also because they are so bright, happy, and just out there. (: I’m also very random and usually happy so they seem to match me a little bit.
What is/are your favourite colour(s)?

Hi, my name is Shania and I’m in grade 7. I live on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. I started the school year in September and I am learning more about technology every week. One of the things I love to do is to listen to music and I love playing sports. One of the sports I play is ice hockey and I am goalie. On the second game I ever played I was goalie and it was great. I have been playing hockey for three years and I’m just starting my 4th year. I love everything about it, even the fact that sometimes I have to wake up at 5:00am to play.

I am also in dance. I take 4 dance classes. My favourite class is hip hop. I have been in hip hop for two years now. (this is my third) A lot of my friends are in my hip hop class too. I also  have ballet, Modern, and Jazz. When I’m not playing sports I love to hang out with my friends. We always have a great time. My favourite colour is green. I really like lime green though because it is so bright! My other favourite colours would have to be blue and purple.

My favourite season is winter because I love the snow. This year it is supposed to snow lots and I’mlooking forward to that. I hope it’s cold enough to freeze over some small ponds so I can skate on it with my friends and play hockey. My friends and I are planning on buying 2 sleds for the winter. We want to make 2 lanes on a hill with snow and we’d take turns racing each other down it. That would be pretty cool.  :)

In school, my favourite subjects would have to be art, music, gym, and sometimes math. Art can be a lot of fun for me because I am artistic and I draw a lot in my spare time. I enjoy music class because I love music and I like playing instruments and I really like gym because I love to play sports.

I have one brother, a step sister, and a dog named Lola, she is a boxer. My favourite holiday is Christmas because I love decorating my house, especially the Christmas tree. My favourite animal is a cow. I love steak and smoothies are my favourite drink. I love hanging out with my friends and having tons of fun. I am hoping I will be able to learn more about technology from other people’s blogs and I hope people will be able to learn from mine.
